KEIGHLEY are the latest club trying to stop the Malton & Norton RUFC bandwagon.

As The Gannock-based outfit recorded their 17th consecutive win last weekend – Teei Piawi’s late try handing them a 12-6 derby triumph at Scarborough – they now travel to West Yorkshire with their dreams of an undefeated season still alive.

But they face a formidable task against a fourth-placed Keighley team renowned for performing well on home turf. They are unbeaten at home and, of their ten wins this season, seven have come in front of their own fans.

Malton will hopefully be boosted by the return of head coach, and fly-half, Chris Creber, who has been out since January with a shoulder injury picked up in the 42-22 win over Castleford.

Club spokesman Bill Laidler said: “At home, they have always been very good, although we have won there in the past. It is always very tough but we are looking forward to it.

“We are hoping to be a little bit better (in terms of injuries). Chris Creber is hoping to play and Ryan Lonsdale will play some part. Hopefully, everyone else is there and fit. We are only missing prop Carl Muscroft, who is working.

“It will be a good examination. Since Christmas, Keighley have put a lot of good results together and they are the team to beat now.”

York, who lost 18-7 to Ilkley at Clifton Park last weekend, are without a game in Yorkshire One.

Selby, beaten narrowly by Knottingley in the same division, go to Dinnington.

After a couple of hard-earned away wins, Pocklington return to Percy Road for the first of two games in six weeks against Moortown.

Moortown had been in third place in Yorkshire Two for much of the season but have slipped back to seventh in recent weeks.

Pocklington have several players pushing for promotion from a strong second team, and the selection committee deliberated long and hard before naming a squad with only one substantive change at this stage – teenager Ben Stephenson coming in for the unavailable Scott Littlefair.

In Yorkshire Three, York Railway Institute are at Bramley Phoenix, while Nestlé Rowntree entertain Stocksbridge at Mille Crux in Yorkshire Five.
