HIGH-FLYING Malton & Norton RUFC bagged a fourth consecutive win to stay on the coat-tails of Yorkshire One leaders Sheffield.

The Ryedale side were not at their best but still managed to come away from Castleford with a 35-17 victory.

The opening quarter was a stalemate, but Castleford took the lead on 18 minutes with a penalty.

The response was instant as prop Paul Dobson touched down and full-back Teei Piawi converted.

Malt forward Mark Bradshaw was sin-binned, but the defence held firm.

A Cas player was later yellow-carded and Malton took full advantage.

Piawi crossed for a try in the corner and, with the addition of a penalty, the visitors led 15-3 at half-time.

From the restart, Malton were awarded a penalty and Piawi added the three.

Two minutes later hooker Carl Muscroft opened his account with a converted try under the posts.

Centre Tony Maka was on hand to power his way through two tackles for a fourth try. Piawi converted.

Malton then produced their worst period of rugby of the season and Castleford took advantage to score their first try.

Malton second-row Richard Webster was sin-binned and the home side soon forced another try. Piawi tagged on a late penalty.

York moved into third place with a 30-8 victory over Scarborough at Clifton Park.

Daz Rutherford burst over from close range to open the scoring, and he was followed over the line by Billy Cakaunitabua, with Craig Ventress converting.

Scarborough responded with a penalty, but Arran Thompson increased York’s lead with a third try.

The visitors struck back with a well-worked try, while the half closed with Ventress kicking a penalty.

After soaking up second half pressure, York launched a raid and captain Jon Sharpe touched down for Ventress to convert.

Ventress then rounded off the scoring with a penalty.

Selby went down 21-8 away to leaders Sheffield.

A Swans squad featuring seven players aged 20 or under gave an encouraging display, scoring the only try of a kick dominated game.

The deadly boot of the Steelmen’s fly-half, Donal Collins, proved the difference between the sides.

Collins kicked three penalties to one by Selby’s Sam Morgan in the first period.

Collins kicked another two penalties before centre Alex Webster claimed the game’s only try. Selby cranked up the pressure, but Collins kicked two further penalties to wrap up the win.

Pocklington top Yorkshire Two after a 23-10 win at Roundhegians. Try scorers were Chris Morton, Ben Rees, John-Paul Kelly and Dan Pickard, with Nick Bennett kicking a penalty.

Nestlé Rowntree beat Adwick le Street 24-22 in Yorkshire Five. Stu Davies, Ant Williams and Mike Winfield touched down, with Jack Gabbatiss kicking three conversions and a match-winning penalty.
