STRUGGLING Selby RUFC have been urged to “stand up and be counted” as they spiral towards relegation from Yorkshire One.

The injury-hit Swans head into tomorrow’s derby clash at Scarborough (2.15pm) having lost all nine of their fixtures this season.

Club spokesman Reg Phillips said: “There are enough experienced players in this squad to pull this team together. This can only be done on the training ground, if this season is not to end without a single Selby victory.

“Although there is a serious and lengthy injury list, there is still plenty of ability in the club, and too many games have slid from potential winning positions to inevitable defeat, with a lack of confidence fuelling errors. Now is the time to stand up and be counted.”

Malton & Norton are only one place above Selby in the table, with one victory in nine matches.

The Ryedale side host Sheffield at The Gannock tomorrow hoping club legend Chris Creber can spark a revival.

Creber, who is also taking on the mantle of backs coach, scored two tries on his return to the club in last weekend’s 20-17 home defeat by Yarnbury.

The 36-year-old fly-half said: “It was good to be back and pleasing to get two tries, but it didn’t help the result.

“Sheffield will be a tough task because they are going well in the league, but we’ve worked hard in training.”

The top four collide in Yorkshire One this weekend, with fourth-placed York travelling to third-placed Bradford Salem and leaders Wheatley Hills hosting closest rivals Castleford.

Victory for York could see them climb into second place.

James Geldart, who suffered a horrific hip disclocation in February, makes his comeback at full-back for York ‘A’ at home to Sheffield Tigers.

After gaining a good league point from a draw at Huddersfield YMCA, Pocklington are back at Percy Road for the visit of Barnsley.

Wing Mark Stringer is unavailable, but Graham Pickering returns to the squad and Pocklington are hoping Steve Moore recovers from an ankle injury sustained playing squash.

The Panthers and Merovingians both travel to West Yorkshire to meet Wetherby and Leodiensians.

The summit of Yorkshire Four is within sight for resurgent York RI, who are seeking a sixth win in seven matches against Sheffield Medicals at New Lane tomorrow. RI are awaiting updates on injuries to Jon Alexander and Robin Grice before naming their team.
