YORK RI Ladies continued their winning streak in North Challenge 2 north east by beating Halifax 38-19.

RI knew that the encounter would be tough as historically the fixture has always been close.

Prop Kirsty Parr peeled off the back of a maul to give RI the lead right in the corner.

Halifax started to press and, with too many team penalties conceded, second row Rebecca Foster was the unfortunate receiver of a yellow card. Halifax took advantage of their overlap and scored.

York regained control and, after a good couple of phases from the forwards, it was shipped to the back line where full back Rachel Demoraes used her fancy footwork to score under the post, Kirsty Parr converting for a 12-5 interval lead.

Halifax started the second half much better than RI and they scored early to level.

With some fresh legs on, RI powered up the pitch and were soon camped in Halifax’s 22. Parr took a quick tap penalty and passed to Demoraes, who set up replacement Charlie Freeman to touch down, Parr adding the extras with help from the cross bar.

Fly half Charlotte Warriner scored two converted tries in succession after fooling the defence but undid her hard work by conceding a penalty and receiving a yellow card in RI's 22 as Halifax touched down.

RI had the last say when prop Laura Bannister scored her first try, powering over for Parr to convert.

RI will be pleased with their performance as they collected another bonus point but will need to work on their discipline ahead of their next game at Doncaster on October 8.
