AN understrength York RI crashed 47-7 away to Ossett in their second outing of the Yorkshire Four (South East) campaign.
Ossett had the previous week enjoyed a fine win at Hessle and RI, without several key players, found that that result was no fluke, with the hosts going clear in the second half.
The big mobile Ossett pack quickly turned power into points in the first stanza to lead 14-0 before RI youngster Chris Jones eluded the home defenders to score a sublime 70-metre try, which was converted by Lee O-Brian to cut the deficit to 14-7 at the break.
The rub of the green would not go the visitors' way in the second period, with a Jones kick through just bouncing the wrong way, then with a spill when an RI try looked certain.
RI stood up manfully in this half but, in truth, Ossett were the better team and turned the screw to run in a further five tries against a tiring team.
It was an ultimately disappointing afternoon for the York outfit, notwithstanding their brave efforts.
