FORMER Pocklington School pupil Lewis Wilson has outlined a desire to win international rugby union honours with England in the not-to-distant future.

The 19-year-old, currently on loan from Yorkshire Carnegie to National League Two North outfit Wharfedale, is aiming to become a regular back at the Leeds-based Championship club and in doing so win call-ups to England under-19s and under-20s squads.

Wilson said: “I am really enjoying it at Wharfedale and am learning a lot but next season I hope to establish myself in Yorkshire Carnegie’s team and play for England U19s, while I want to play for England U20s the season after.”

Up-and-coming flanker Wilson is currently helping Wharfedale in their bid to survive in National League Two North.

The team have not won on the road since December 2015 but are hopeful their excellent home form will secure their status, with Wilson part of the team that notched a 27-3 bonus-point victory over Tynedale last Saturday to rise two places to 11th - above Luctonians and old foes Harrogate with a 10-point gap to Scunthorpe who occupy what is likely to be the third relegation spot.

“We have now won six on the bounce at home and we have another home game on Saturday against Harrogate,” said Wilson.

“If we win that, it really will be a case of happy days.

“If we keep on winning our home games then we will be fine, but it would be nice if we could transfer some of that home form when we go away.”
