YORK RUFC coach Lee Denham insists the club can afford NO slip-ups between now and the end of the season if they are to secure play-off qualification.

The men from Clifton Park are third in the Yorkshire One table with eight games to play - six points adrift of second placed West Leeds who occupy the solitary play-off spot.

According to Denham, they will need maximum points from every remaining game if they are to drag West Leeds out of the top two.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's home game against Yarnbury (kick-off 2.15pm), Denham said: "There is no fluff in our fixture list now.

"There are eight games to go and we need five points from every game. I am not sure if it is do-able - but we will definitely be giving it a good go."

Victory over runaway leaders Bridlington and a bonus point draw with West Leeds in their last two fixtures have boosted York's confidence and kept the promotion race alive.

Denham, however, says his players can still be more clinical and need to eliminate occasionally slow starts to fixtures.

Bridlington are playing host to West Leeds on Saturday and Denham commented: "That game is a huge one for us now. Obviously, if we had turned West Leeds over (two weeks ago), we wouldn't have been too bothered who won - but we are playing for second spot now so we want a Bridlington victory.

"The confidence among our lads is great at the moment," he added. "We have some really good players and they are all showing a good work ethos.

"Having no game last week gave a few an opportunity to re-charge their batteries - but we have got a couple of players away skiing this week (flanker Josh Parker and outside centre Sam Forbes) and Chris Fox (the captain) is away at a family wedding."

Selby's home clash with Acklam, meanwhile, could prove pivotal in the battle against relegation.

Having lost 10 games in a row, Selby are one point behind Acklam in the bottom three.

In North One East, leaders Pocklington face a stern test of their title credentials on Saturday at third placed Penrith.

Pocklington returned to the top of the table two weeks ago - replacing Penrith who had suffered a shock away defeat at Morpeth.

They have never previously visited Penrith's Winters Park ground and the team will be travelling up on Friday and staying the night in Kendal.

Five points currently separate the two teams with West Hartlepool occupying second spot - three points behind Pocklington.

Malton & Norton will be seeking revenge on Saturday when they visit Bradford & Bingley.

The clubs are six places apart in North One East but were involved in a thrilling 29-27 encounter when meeting at The Gannock in October.

Malton have recorded three wins in their last four games but are still only one point above the relegation zone after defeats in 10 of the previous 14.

In Yorkshire Four, York RI visit leaders Skipton.

Second placed Nestle Rowntree host fourth placed West Park Leeds 2nd in the YRFU Central & North Merit League division one. Selby 3rd XV host rock bottom Leeds Modernians 2nd XV.

Winger Lucy Peet will miss York RI Ladies home game against Scarborough Valkyries Ladies in the Women's National Championship North 2 East after breaking a collarbone.
