PROMOTION-SEEKING York RUFC will be without captain Chris Fox for tomorrow's Yorkshire One trip to mid-table Hullensians - but they have a decent replacement coming in as they seek to maintain winning form.

Second-row Fox is suspended following his red card in York's Boxing Day charity run-out, but in comes promising Newcastle University prop Will Scholey who is currently back home during the festive break from studies.

Scholey, a product of York's junior section, toured with England Counties Under-20s last year and is being monitored by Newcastle Falcons while in the North East.

York's backs coach, Ian Thomson, said the team, unbeaten in four outings, were seeking another bonus-point victory to boost their chances of finishing in the sole play-off spot behind runaway leaders Bridlington.

"Hullensians are a different outfit at home as they are away," he said. "We only managed a draw with them at Clifton Park - we snatched a draw from the jaws of victory - but we're a different team now and we're on a decent run of form and looking at a promotion push.

"We'll miss Chris Fox this weekend - he's pretty inspirational and a great player in this league - but we have strength in depth. We've got an England Counties player coming in for this game (Scholey) and we're strong in the backs.

"We've trained really well and and worked on some new systems, and we're fully confident."

York, level on points with West Leeds, are second in the table according to the Yorkshire union's website, based on points scored, but third in the official Rugby Football Union standings, based on number of wins.

Said Thomson: "Either way if we win all our remaining games we will get that second place, and that's what we're aiming for."

Fox faces a disciplinary hearing next week after being sent off for allegedly "tipping" an opponent when trying to get the ball back and get the game going following a penalty at a ruck.

Meanwhile, Selby, beaten 37-3 by York before Christmas, resume against Bridlington tomorrow, tasked with halting the juggernaut as it powers to the title.

York RI get going again in Yorkshire Four at home to a Hemsworth side chasing promotion.
