YORK RI Ladies maintained their 100 per cent start to the season in North Two East with an impressive win over Bishop Auckland.

Victories in five consecutive games have put York RI top of the eight-team table - two points clear of second-placed Scarborough Valkyries.

This week's 27-5 home win was, arguably, their best result so far.

RI made a good start with Kirsty Parr's accurate kicking making great territory.

Bex Homer scored the first try of the afternoon after RI won the ball at a Bishop scrum. Parr added the extras.

RI grew in confidence, and despite giving away a number of penalties, increased their advantage when captain Shannon Little shrugged off a high tackle to go over the whitewash.

Bishop's indiscipline threatened to take over their competitive game and winger Lucy Peet stormed over the line after another high tackle.

Bishop were reduced to 14 players for the first part of the second half but RI failed to capitalise.

Once they were back up to 15, Bishop secured possession and started to gain territory. RI conceded three successive penalties and quick hands allowed Bishop to score.

RI did not let it affect them and their forwards continued to secure possession at the breakdown.

The second half was interrupted by a serious injury to a Bishop Auckland player so play moved to the second pitch.

Great scrummaging and team work allowed Homer to run straight through the defence and score her second try.

RI were strong on the attack and Bishop rarely saw the ball in the final 20 minutes.

Full-back Rachel Demoreas was outstanding in defence all game and proved her worth in attack. She secured a high ball and drew defenders before popping the ball to winger Peet who kicked past opponents before going under the posts again for the final try.

York RI host Barnsley on Sunday in the next round of the Women's Cup.
