NESTLE Rowntree RUFC played a home game for the first time in eleven months following redevelopment by St John's and it showed in their eagerness to get stuck into Old Modernians II.

After only three minutes, lock John Thomson finished a good move before Jack Daniels converted. Five minutes later, a good move by the backs saw captain Greg Neill pushed over for a try.

Three injuries in rapid succession left Trees in disarray and allowed Modernians youthful team to hit back with a try.

Trees soon regrouped and their enterprising backs got going. Wingers Dave Helsden and Mike Palfrey both scored with Daniels converting both times. From the kick off, Trees fumbled and Modernians scored to leave Trees 26-10 up at the break.

But Trees were now in control and Helsden scored again before fullback Roman Caimes hit the line at speed to score with Daniels again converting.

The forwards took over and hooker Jack Gabbatiss forced his way over for Daniels to convert before debutant and makeshift centre Jack Spearman raced in to score. The easiest conversion was missed but it still gave Trees an emphatic 50-10 win.
