Yorkshire Division Four: Halifax Vandals 29 York RI 0
AS is often the case for any club when a league match is re-arranged, York RI were missing several regulars when they travelled to leaders Halifax Vandals.
However, after a heroic effort in the opening 40 minutes against the hosts' big forwards, the visitors only trailed 8-0.
In the second half, against the run of play, RI fumbled a ball and the home side's fly half grabbed the ball to score under the posts, the conversion making it 15-0.
The visitors stuck to their guns but, tiring after their outstanding effort, conceded two more tries, the 27-0 scoreline by no means reflecting the way a weakened side matched up to the powerful hosts.
On Saturday, ninth-placed RI are at home to bottom-of-the-table Sheffield Oaks.
Neither Pocklington (North One East), York, Malton & Norton or Selby (Yorkshire Division One) were in action, but Malton & Norton lost the leadership as Bradford & Bingley triumphed 64-0 at Heath to go back in front by four points with a game in hand.
This weekend, Pocklington (sixth) are at home to Morpeth (seventh) in North One East, while fifth-placed York could do Malton & Norton a favour when they host Bradford & Bingley in Yorkshire Division One.
Malton are at home to third-placed Bridlington, who they lead by eight points, while next-to-bottom Selby are at home to eighth-placed Heath.
