POCKLINGTON slipped to an 11-6 defeat at Morpeth in a low key game in North One East.

Despite the long trip to Northumberland, Pocklington were the first to show and edged ahead with two penalties from three attempts by wing Nathan Saltmer.

But Morpeth always had the edge in open play and they broke through the first line of the visiting defence on half a dozen occasions before Pocklington were rescued by one-on-one tackles or scrambling defence, with full-back Charlie Allen and centre Billy Hardy to the fore.

Morpeth reduced the arrears with a penalty just two minutes after the break and, though Pocklington's defence continued to keep the home side out for long periods, Morpeth's territorial advantage saw them rumble over for a close range try from a lineout and add a second penalty to seal victory.

The win leapfrogged Morpeth over Pocklington in the table but the East Yorkshire side did come away from the north with a losing bonus point.

York were humbled 45-7 at Bradford & Bingley in Yorkshire One as head coach Lee Denham's side slipped to a fourth consecutive defeat and fell to tenth in the table.

Thoroughly outplayed, they were on the end of a seven try mauling against a rampant home outfit.

The Clifton Parkers fell behind after only a minute as Gerhard Nortier scored a try and then added the conversion.

Greg Whately extended Bradford's advantage in the 21st minute before, on the half hour mark, centre Taylor Fiddes crossed the whitewash.

Nortier converted as Bradford & Bingley led 19-0 at the break.

The home side started the second half as quickly as they did the first and were further ahead just two minutes after the resumption.

Adam Mitchell scored the first of two tries in just three minutes as Bradford stretched into a 33-0 advantage.

With the game already won, they rang the changes and York claimed their only consolation of the game on 58 minutes when Sam Blain scored a try.

It was converted by Jon Dawes but the score only served to wake Bradford from their slumber.

Four minutes after York's brief highlight, the home men had once again crossed the whitewash through Nick Gore and they completed the scoring on 69 minutes after Michael Crotch got in on the act.

Nortier's successful conversion brought to an end a sorry afternoon for York and lifted Salem up to seventh in the Yorkshire One standings.
