TITLE hopefuls Malton & Norton got back to winning ways in Yorkshire One with a 43-0 hammering of basement side West Park Leeds.

Malton's depleted side were beaten at Heath last time out and they were still missing influential flankers Sam Triffitt and Ali Coe here due to injury but they barely needed to get out of first gear to overcome a young West Park.

Malton went ahead as a good catch at the back of a lineout by George Barker set up a drive before the ball was released for fly-half Nick Daley to feed wing Ian Cooke who scampered over.

Five minutes later, West Park had a scrum five metres from their own line but a massive shove from the Malton eight drove the visitors off the ball and Josh Heggie set up a maul for prop Ben Boothman to drive over.

The next try came from a lineout. Jamie Rounthwaite took clean ball which was spread to the threequarters. Centre Rhys Bowdich broke through and sent in wing Ben Woodhouse.

The second half saw Malton take a stranglehold on the game, especially in the forwards.

Ten minutes in, clean lineout ball was again fed to the backs and Bowdich had a simple finish.

West Park were then punished by Zweli Sodladla when a penalty failed to find touch. Paul Angus fielded the ball and fed the full-back, who embarked on a superb, rapid, weaving run from half way, ending it with a flourish in the corner to make it 31-0.

Five minutes later, the pack again shunted the visitors back before feeding Sodladla. This time a wiggle of the hips saw him get to the posts and add his fourth conversion.

On the half-hour a flurry of yellow cards, one for Malton and two for West Park, caused a little excitement and left players and spectators alike bemused.

Malton, though, took advantage of their numerical superiority. Heggie picked up at a scrum and made ground before handing on to Cooke who bagged his second try.

Struggling Selby had no such joy as they lost 37-5 to Old Brodleians to stay second bottom.
