LEE DENHAM isn't getting carried away despite York RUFC's electric start to the new Yorkshire One season.

The new Clifton Parkers head coach has seen his fledgling side win their first two games under his stewardship - including an eye-catching 11-10 derby victory at Malton & Norton last week.

Bradford Salem, who have lost both their matches in the new campaign, come to Shipton Road tomorrow but Denham, far from believing his team are the finished article, believes there is still much to work on.

"It was a real coup for us to win there," he said of the Malton result. "It has been a bit of a fortress for them but we have been working really hard on our shape. We lose it now and again and both teams we have played so far have been really good at off-the-cuff running and that's where they have scored their tries from.

"Our scrummaging wasn't great against Malton but our physical shape is good. We are not getting carried away in anyway, shape or form. We have got a lot to do and I am pretty sure we have four, five and six gears to go through."

On Bradford, Denham added: "I am optimistic. I am going to have some of my big players available this week and, as long as we can keep our shape and keep digging away, I think we should be fine. I'm not reading anything into their last two games,

"They got promoted last year and they are going to be a good side. We have to try and use our ability, our patterns and shape and, hopefully, we can dig a win out."

Marcus Britland will return for York with Sam Laing coming into the second row.

Malton, meanwhile, look to bounce back at Old Crossleyans.

Laidler said of the performance against York: "For the neutral it was an exciting game but for Malton a disappointing return and for a York a good away win. Both sides will have more to offer as the season progresses if this display is anything to judge by.

"Malton's speedy backs will get better and York have the players to make an impression on most sides."

Selby might be relying on youth this season but head coach Richard Nicholson is still eyeing a first victory of the season at Hullensians in Yorkshire One.

The Sandhill Laners performed valiantly in defeat against early leaders Bradford & Bingley last week and Nicholson said: "We are very much in the building up stage again, giving the youngsters an opportunity and backing them.

"Ninety per cent of the players in the first and second team have come through the junior section and it is going to take them time to get accustomed to rugby at a senior level. They are already making progress. It was hugely positive against Bradford and Bingley and their effort was fantastic.

"Hullensians is a very challenging place to go but we are looking forward to it."

Captain Sam Weller and Matthew Wood return for Nicholson this week.

Pocklington will be looking for a big improvement in league form as they are at home to early North One East favourites Doncaster Phoenix. They welcome Karl Durkin and Matt Davies back from injury.

York RI are not in action in Yorkshire Four.
