Heworth ARLC will read little into Egremont's hammering last week when they visit the Cumbrians in National Conference division two.

Egremont lost 78-2 at lowly Brighouse, but they had many players unavailable and their record - they have lost all four games away but won all three at home - suggests they will be stronger on their own turf.

"Egremont had a really scratch side out last week," said Villagers spokesman Ken Sykes, who reckoned the Cumbrians' record is a consequence of their geographical position.

"With it being such a long journey, teams invariably end up with a weakened side as players can't travel for various reasons," he said. "It works the same for these Cumbrian teams when they're away.

"It distorts the league in some respects but it's one of those things you can't do much about."

Heworth will be without unavailable captain Dan Briggs, but have no new injury concerns.

Sykes added: "We didn't do well there last year. We're hoping we can do better and there's good incentive for us. We've started quite brightly and if we get a result it puts us in a reasonable stead ahead of tough games with Crosfields and Millom."
