Selby Warriors will hope this weekend off will help them get over their first loss of the division two campaign – 28-16 at Odsal Sedbergh.

Selby missed a few first-team regulars and influential skipper Wayne Fennell that day and, although they started well after opting to attack up the slope in the first half, it did not last.

Chris O’Neill touched down, Gavyn Lightowler converting, and Selby tackled well only for a lapse in concentration to let the hosts level on half-time.

Warriors boss Paul Helstrip warned the slope advantage would not mean the second half would be easy, and so it proved as Odsal struck following a Selby error.

Ben Harris had a try chalked off before his side equalised with a great effort from Richard Stead. Both sides then had a man sin-binned, Harris yellow-carded for retaliation.

Lightowler had a near miss before Odsal struck again against the run of play. That was quickly cancelled out as Lighthowler crossed and converted to reclaim the lead at 16-14, but an error-strewn finale saw Odsal bag three tries in the last eight minutes.
