SELBY rugby league referee Andrew Cook, 17, has been selected to officiate in the Powergen National Schools finals curtain-raiser to tomorrow's Challenge Cup final at Twickenham.
Cook, of The Poplars, Brayton, has been picked because of his dedication and quality of refereeing shown over the last few seasons and his performances at recent national junior camps and training nights.
As a warm-up to the curtain-raiser, the Selby Rugby League Referees' Society member was due to be in action today at RAF Uxbridge refereeing one of the Powergen National Schools finals.
Cook has already experienced the big stage having refereed the curtain-raiser to this year's World Club Challenge between Bradford and Wests Tigers at Hudders-field's Galpharm Stadium.
Paul Stockman, the Selby Rugby League Referees' Society development officer, said: "Andrew is a talented official and, if he keeps up the good work and training, he has a bright career ahead of him.
Any budding junior refs can get further information from Stockman on 01757 700551 or Geoff Berry at RFL's match officials department on email matchofficials@rfl.uk.com
