Young Josh Parkin bagged two tries in the last ten minutes for Selby Warriors to win 26-18 at Odsal Sedbergh and stay in touch with the Pennine League division three front-runners.

The game was played in terrible conditions, with Selby going up the slope in the first half.

They trailed 14-6 at the interval, stand-off Ben Pearson having got their try and goal, while forwards John Harrison and Scott Pearson excelled.

Selby battered the home line after the break but found it a struggle to get over the whitewash, despite Jason Roberts and Ryan Eades making regular inroads.

Centre Matthew Irving finally crashed over on the hour-mark, Richard Stead goaling, but Odsal replied.

Man-of-the-match Zenon Horrox was a key man in getting Selby back in the game and he set up a try for big prop Justin Priest which cut the gap to 18-16.

But Parkin was the late ace to sustain the Warriors’ title hopes, both his tries set up by veteran hooker Jason McManus.

An under-strength Selby Warriors ‘A’ lost 66-0 at Underbank Rangers ‘A’ in division seven, the home team having several first-team players in the ranks after their game was called off.

Shaun Bell, in his first open-age game and fellow youngsters Sean Sullivan, 17, and Louis Heaps, 18, impressed for the Warriors, whose man of the match was Danny.
