A DRAMATIC finale saw New Earswick All Blacks ARLC surrender their 100 per cent record in 2010 as they went down 26-24 to Kippax Welfare.

Welfare scored two tries in the closing five minutes to snatch the points in the Pennine League premier division clash at White Rose Avenue.

New Earswick had started well with centre Jack Sinclair powering over and winger Carl Fernandez adding the extras.

Kippax tied the scores midway through the first half with a converted try.

The hosts then scored a spectacular try, with a total of six offloads allowing Sinclair to squeeze over the line. Fernandez converted.

On the stroke of half-time, Fernandez intercepted a pass and charged upfield to score under the sticks before adding the extras for an 18-6 lead.

After the break, New Earswick extended their lead with Sinclair crossing for his hat-trick.

The All Blacks led by 16 points, but they failed to kill off Kippax as they shipped two tries in two minutes.

All Blacks scored again through second-rower Joe Hemmings, but a lack of concentration in defence allowed Kippax to steal the win.

Frustration boiled over in a brawl which saw two sin-binnings for the All Blacks and one for Kippax.

New Earswick’s man of the match was stand-off Ben Jones, backed by second-rower Joe Hemmings and full-back Joe Stearman.

There was no game for New Earswick All Blacks ‘A’ in division five, while Selby Warriors’ two sides were also not in league action.

York Acorn ‘A’ were 36-4 victors at Milford Marlins ‘A’ in CMS Yorkshire League division two.

Inspired by new Aussie signing and man of the match, Dennis Wellard, the Blue and Golds were in superb form.

Acorn’s try scorers were Stephen Waldron, Simon Wadsworth, Kenny Shepherd, Tattersfield (2) and Hilton.

Craig Fox slotted over six goals from six attempts.

Heworth ‘A’ suffered a 52-6 defeat at second place Kettlethorpe.
