TRY stars Liam Watling and Johnny Waldron each scored a hat-trick as York Lokomotive ARLC beat Leeds Akkies 44-26 in the Rugby League Conference Yorkshire division.

The Lokos, boosted by the return of captain John Hough and a debut for Danny Caldwell, were in fine form away to Leeds as they followed up their home victory over Kippax the previous week.

The visitors suffered the worst possible start as the Akkies crossed for a try after a Lokos knock-on in their own 20.

However, they hit back when stand-off Ben Jones dummied and stepped through the defence and full-back Tom Dunmore added the extras.

A few plays later Watling went over and Dunmore converted, and he also added the extras to former York City Knights winger Waldron’s first score.

A series of penalties handed the hosts good field position and they capitalised to score twice.

Dunmore then suffered a hamstring pull and coach Barry Gargan was forced to reshuffle his back line.

The Lokos pushed forward and Mike Williams powered over the line, but again ill-discipline allowed Akkies in for a try.

Just before half-time, Waldron zoomed in for his second try of the day and Jones added the extras to give his side a 28-18 lead at the break.

Jones put Waldron through for his hat-trick score early in the second half, but the Akkies refused to give in and they pulled back to within ten points with a try.

With the outcome in the balance, front-rower Watling completed his hat-trick with two tries in three minutes.

Jones converted them both to put the game out of reach.

Scrum-half Lee Spain and loose-forward Steve Waldron both suffered injuries, leaving the Lokos with only 13 fit players.

Akkies had the last word with a late try.
