Selby Warriors will meet New Earswick All Blacks in the semi-final of the York & District Amateur Rugby League Cup at Featherstone Rovers’ Chris Moyles Stadium.

The Championship club will stage the game on Wednesday, kick off 7.30pm, in a big help to the Warriors of Pennine League division four.

Selby chairman Dave Sowden said: “It is a fantastic gesture by Rovers who have a great relationship with us; our juniors play many curtain-raisers there.

“The situation was getting awkward because the final is pencilled in for April 11, but Selby have league fixtures right up to then so a midweek game was the only option.

“Selby will be really up against it playing a team four divisions higher, but at a ground that is famous for cup shocks you never know.”

The winners of Wednesday’s clash will meet York Acorn ‘A’ in the final, the Blue and Golds having won at Heworth ‘A’ this week.

A brave effort by Heworth was not enough to contain a strong Acorn team, who won 22-4 at Elmpark Way.

Heworth opened strongly when centre Sean Brough collected a goal-line dropout and raced over in the corner.

On the half hour, Acorn showed their skill when a neat grubber kick was collected by Damian Hilton to equalise.

Only fine defensive play by Kevin Gott, Gareth Watson and Sam Johnson kept Acorn at bay. But just before half-time a burst saw Nick Caldwell cross under the posts, Lee Franks goaling.

An enforced ten-minute break due to floodlight failure did not dim Acorn and they went on to add further tries through Daryll North, Kev Brayshaw and a second for Caldwell.
