YORK Lokomotiv ARLC will be desperate to learn the lessons of last week when they visit Northallerton Stallions on Saturday in the Rugby League Conference Yorkshire division.

The Lokos' unbeaten start to the campaign ended when they fell 20-18 at Leeds Akkies, a team who had yet to win.

The Stallions - who, like the Lokos, are a new club - are also without a victory so far, but Lokos coach Paul McDermott has warned his side not to fall into the same trap and take things for granted.

"We were poor," said the former York Wasps player of his side's display against Leeds.

"We got sucked into the psychological battle thinking that, because they had lost easily, we were going to win easily. But they did not lie down and die."

The Lokos were not happy with the spirit in which the game was played, but McDermott did not use that as an excuse. "We should have adapted better. We lost because we treated them light-heartedly. Some of our players had visions of scoring hat-tricks but you've got to be prepared to get stuck in and work."

Winger Michael Williams scored his first try for the Lokos and loose-forward Julian MacBride forced his way over to keep them in touch at half-time.

Tom Galloway nipped over to give the York side the lead and, when MacBride scored his second following his own banana kick, the Lokos should have gone on to win. But poor discipline and cynical play from the Akkies spoiled the day, with the hosts stealing the points late on, despite Tyler Dawson's man-of-the-match display.

McDermott - who has lost Gary Watkinson to a broken foot but sees Rob Latham return this Saturday - added: "It's a lesson for us.

"Forget their other results, we have to go to Northallerton expecting a very tough game. The players were sickened after last week and it's important not to fall into the same trap."

The coach, for players and supporters, leaves York RI at noon.
