HEWORTH opened their Yorkshire Men's League division one campaign with an impressive 54-10 victory over West Hull A at Elmpark Way.

The Villagers posted four first-half tries to lead 20-10 at the break and went on to add six further unanswered touchdowns in the second period to run out comprehensive winners.

Heworth were ahead after four minutes when some slick handling led to debutant centre Adam Dent crossing in the corner for an unconverted score.

The visitors responded five minutes later with a try by second rower Mike Cavell goaled by scrum half Kieran Wilson, and increased their advantage to 10-4 on 19 minutes through wingman George Kirby.

The Villagers then clicked into gear and a good offload by player-coach George Elliott put substitute Jake Atkinson over wide out before Elliott himself went in for a brace in the 26th and 38th minutes.

The first came from a strong 35-metre break and the second after forcing his way over under the posts from close range. Loose forward Joe Deighton added both conversions for a 20-10 half-time lead.

The second period belonged entirely to the black and whites. After only five minutes, hooker Dave Hayes put sibling prop Mark over for a try improved by Deighton.

And on the hour mark, scrum half Liam Jackson and full back Fraser West combined to send in winger Callum Worthington for another Deighton goaled effort.

The rout continued with four further touchdowns in the closing ten minutes from Jackson (2), West and Deighton who also kicked three more conversions for a personal tally of 18 points.
