HEWORTH ARLC crashed to their heaviest defeat of the Yorkshire Men's League division one season, falling 62-10 to impressive leaders Batley Boys.

The Villagers took a deserved lead on six minutes when player-coach George Elliott released loose-forward Joe Deighton to run 30 metres before finding the fast-supporting Fraser West, Deighton goaling.

But Batley soon equalised and unforced Heworth errors proved costly as the visitors bagged three further tries, two converted.

Elliott got Heworth back in the game with an unconverted try just before the interval and at 22-10 there was still much to play for.

However, the second half belonged totally to Batley, who took their overall tally to 11 tries and nine goals to consolidate top spot.

For Heworth, Elliott, Deighton, West and never-say-die hooker David Hayes were the pick in a performance which didn't lack effort despite being outclassed, particularly in the second half.

Heworth Academy were comfortable 66-4 winners over North Yorkshire Wildcats in a friendly at Elmpark Way.

The visitors were short on numbers but were supplemented by the hosts to ensure the game took place. The Villagers, with a good mix of teenagers and senior players, score tries through Ben Stoker (3), Max Carry (2), Rob Hann, Kenny Strangeway, Ron Hodgson, Jordan Bracewell, Harry Fogg, Steve Atha and Sam Young. Gary Watkinson (8) and Young added conversions.
