HEWORTH ARLC are still seeking their first win of the Yorkshire Men's League season but remain optimistic they are well set for a good campaign when league fixtures start.

After an opening Forty-20 Cup group stage defeat to premier division neighbours York Acorn 'A', Heworth were edged out 20-18 by division one rivals Skirlaugh 'A' in a game they probably should have won.

They visit another division one team in Wibsey Warriors on Saturday, where they will derive further pointers to the main campaign that lies ahead.

And this time they are likely to have player-coach George Elliott, the former Leeds academy and York City Knights threequarter, on the field, after he opted to run the rule over his new team from the sidelines last week.

"We don't really know that much about Wibsey, to be honest - it's unknown territory at present," said Villagers spokesman Ken Sykes.

"We're still looking for that first win but it was a good run-out last week and we should have won. We scored four tries to their three and we were in control for a fair chunk of the game but let it slip.

"We're fairly optimistic we can give another good account of ourselves and if George plays you'd expect it'd make the team stronger.

"He promised everyone game time and wanted to have a look at some players so stood back a bit."

Acorn 'A', who have reached the Forty-20 Cup final in the last three years, face probably their hardest task so far this term as they look to maintain their unbeaten start.

With two wins in the bag, they now host fellow premier division newcomers Norland Sharks, who have three from three.

Division two team York Lokomotive, toppled by Acorn last week, face another premier division outfit in Beverley.
