YORK ACORN ARLC will travel to Shaw Cross Sharks in the National Conference League first division play-offs after an emphatic 42-6 win at relegated Salford City Roosters.

The Blue and Golds' victory was built on a rampant forward display where twin prop enforcers Tim Stubbs and Joe Porter were immense, while Elliott Bulmer and 17-year-old full-back Matt Chilton also impressed.

They opened the scoring after six minutes when loose forward Josh Mortimer crashed over and, after Chilton added the extras, they doubled the lead when Stubbs smashed his way through.

Salford responded with a try of their own - intercepting a pass close to the half-way and racing in for a converted try that cut Acorn's lead in half.

Head coach Scott Rhodes' men knew they needed to get off a flier after the break and, two minutes in, Bulmer charged down an attempted kick on the half-way line and gathered to race in from 50 yards.

Chilton's goal put Acorn 18-6 in front and this was extended when winger Joel Johnson flew over in the corner to finish off a free flowing passing move from the York outfit.

They sealed the game when Stubbs rampaged over and Acorn could now not be stopped.

Winger Josh Thompson intercepted on the half-way line to register a Chilton converted score and a 32-6 lead and hard-working stand-off Harry Bromwich was rewarded for his efforts with a try.

The final score came when scrum-half Joe Budd notched a try, which was converted by Chilton.
