NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC picked up only their second away victory of the Pennine League Championship One season as they beat Bradford side Odsal Sedbergh 32-24.

The second-placed All Blacks took the lead in the first minute when Odsal spilled a high bomb from the All Blacks and player coach Jack Stearman was quickest to the ball to score, with Tom Holmes converting.

The visitors added to their lead when Carl Smith crossed and Holmes converted.

Odsal hit back with a converted try but All Blacks responded when Joe Smith crossed for his first try for the club following quick passing down the line.

Holmes converted.

Tommy Hields was next to go over the line after collecting a high kick and Holmes again added the extras.

Odsal narrowed the gap with an unconverted try just before half-time.

Two tries from Odsal brought the hosts back to within four points, but the All Blacks steadied the ship as Jamie Norris powered his way over for Holmes to convert.

Odsal again came back with an unconverted try, but the All Blacks made sure of their victory with Holmes kicking a penalty five minutes from time.

The New Earswick man of the match was Stearman, and he was backed up well by Jack Hodgson and Adam Kirby, with solid performances from Norris and Dave Carling.

York Acorn ‘A’ enjoyed a 26-10 victory at Milford Marlins ‘A’ in the Yorkshire League’s Forty20 Yorkshire Cup.

It was Acorn’s second victory in the group stages of the competition, following on from their 74-4 home triumph over Featherstone Lions ‘A’.

Against Milford, it took 28 minutes for Acorn to break the deadlock with the first try of a Luke Swales hat-trick.

Tony Shepherd added the extra two points.

With forwards James Bromwich and Martin McTigue in great form, Acorn were able to move further ahead when Gareth Singleton muscled his way over for a 10-0 lead.

Milford hit back just before half-time with a converted try to give Acorn a well-earned 10-6 interval lead.

Penalties kept Acorn camped on their own line for the first ten minutes of the second half, but some excellent defence by Acorn, led by Jake Calam, who made a superb open age debut, kept Milford out.

Milford then hit back with an unconverted try but two more tries from the impressive Swales and one from Calam, along with another two Shepherd conversions, completed an excellent Acorn display.
