YORK Lokomotive ARLC secured a precious 28-24 New Lane victory over Shaw Cross ‘A’ in Yorkshire League group two.

Lokos conceded two soft converted tries in the first ten minutes, but they pulled back to 12-12 at half-time.

Captain Liam Watling evaded a brace of tacklers to crash over and hooker Ricky James also crossed, with Jon Hough converting both.

Knowing that only a win would keep them in the title hunt, the Lokos tackled ferociously at the start of the second half, forcing a Shaw Cross player to spill the ball for Tom Gargan to pick up and dive over the try line. Tyler Dawson converted.

Then Diddy Bellwood drew the last defender and fed centre Leon Ford for a scintillating try.

With 20 minutes remaining, winger Andy Rayner tackled a Shaw Cross prop with such force that the ball was dropped and Rayner gathered to sprint 50 metres to the line. Dawson again goaled.

Shaw Cross scored two late tries, but the Lokos had already wrapped up the points with star performances from Dawson, Jon Cambridge, Mark Musgrave and Watling.

A young and inexperienced Heworth ‘A’ team were undone by a late rally from group two joint-leaders Bradford Dudley Hill ‘A’ as they lost 46-28.

Dudley Hill shot into an early 12-0 lead before the outstanding Max Colley created tries for teenage Villagers’ debutants George Wallace and Baxter Hackett. Joe Deighton converted one of the tries.

The hosts replied with a further ten points, but Colley scored a superb try, which Deighton goaled for a 22-16 half-time deficit.

After conceding another try, Deighton and Ross Varley crossed for tries, both goaled by Deighton, to level at 28-28.

However, the Bradford team sealed victory with three goaled tries.

Colley won the man of the match award, with support coming from Johnny Marwood, Tom Atkin and John Laverack.

Elsewhere in the Yorkshire League, the Scarborough Pirates pocketed a healthy 32-16 triumph away to Drighlington in group one.

But such success proved elusive in the the group two encounter between Scarborough Pirates ‘A’ and visiting Normanton Knights ‘A’. The Knights were too strong and posted a comfortable 46-20 triumph.
