New Earswick All Blacks go fourth with Championship triumph over King Cross Park

NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC moved up to fourth in the Pennine League Championship with a 46-18 home win over King Cross Park.

The hosts took the lead after only 27 seconds when half-back Liam Gargan crossed and goaled.

On ten minutes, Gargan scored his second try before winger Pete Ritchie got an unconverted try.

Debutant winger Tommy Heilds squeezed his way over and Gargan goaled before good passing put stand-off Adam Kirby through the gap to score, with Gargan again successful with boot.

Centre Reece Blake powered over after a quick play the ball to give the All Blacks a 34-0 half-time lead.

Substitute prop and coach Jack Stearman powered over and Gargan goaled before King Cross hit back with three converted tries.

New Earswick had the final say when full-back Sean Malarkey went over, Gargan converting.

Sherburn Bears were without a game in division five, while both Selby Warriors teams had their games postponed.

The York & District Community Cup will kick off with a preliminary round tie between New Earswick and York Lokos on March 22.

The sides will meet at White Rose Avenue (2.30pm), admission £2, with the winner travelling to York Acorn in the semi-finals.

Selby Warriors will host Heworth in the other last four tie, which is expected to played on March 22, with a £2 admission charge.

Heworth, Acorn and New Earswick will contest the Under-18s Youth Cup – which is sponsored by the York RL Ex-PLayers’ Association – in a round-robin format.

Over the next few weeks, Heworth will host Acorn, New Earswick will travel to Thanet Road to take on Acorn and then host Heworth.

The top two will contest the final.
