YORK squash ace Poppie Jaram had a great start to this season by winning her first major competition.
The Dunnington Squash Club teenager won the GU15s Yorkshire Championship staged at Pontefract. She won all of her matches 3-0, including the final, where she beat Emma Gill.
Of the final, her coach Garry Crossland said: “Poppie played a tough opponent coming from behind 9-3 in the first game to win and take the title with some controlled squash playing good lengths to pressurise her opponent into weak returns.
“Emma put up a good fight but Poppie’s shot selection was first class, attacking at the correct time and using good height to Emma’s backhand when under pressure.”
