A LACK of consistency and confidence proved decisive in the 74-62 home defeat suffered by York Eagles Under-14s basketball side against Bradford Dragons.

York were never able to fully exert pressure on the England North Conference title-chasers and indeed failed to win any quarter in the duel.

The hosts started well enough leading 11-7 within seven minutes before Bradford posted an 11-4 burst.

Despite Tom Flatters notching six points to counter Bradford’s unpressurised attack, by half-way the York deficit was eight points.

The third quarter needed a big push from York but it was Bradford again that were the stronger as the lead increased to 11.

The last quarter saw York get as near as eight points before Bradford’s number 14 poached six out of their last eight points for a comfortable win.

The moment of the match was provided by Euan Collins, who notched his first basket with a good move and shot, while Declan Clay was York’s top performer.

The U14s are next in action against Chesire Panthers on Saturday.
