RITESH GURUNG scored all four tries as New Earswick All Blacks ARLC Under-12s preserved their unbeaten record with a 24-12 victory at Methley Warriors.

The All Blacks made a slow start but grabbed the first try from a decent line break by Gurung, but Methley replied from the kick off, forcing an error for an unconverted try.

Methley powered over to go 8-6 in front before the All Blacks woke up and power play from prop Cannon, loose forward Prenty and Lewis Young ended with Gurung crossing.

Just before half-time, Methley scored their third try to level the game at 12-12. The All Blacks turned up the heat after the break and Gurung powered over for two more tries, with in-form kicker Sam Briggs converting all four tries.

Briggs kicked well and tackled superbly from marker, earning him the man of the match award and parents’ player award.

Prenty took the top tackler accolade, while the joint magic moment winners were Gurung and Young.

Oliver Douglas took the most improved player award with a fine display of tackling.

Heworth U11s put in a gutsy display but fell short against well drilled hosts Shaw Cross Sharks.

The Black and Whites got off to the worst possible start with a mistake from the kick off resulting in Shaw Cross spinning the ball wide to create a large overlap and scoring a converted try in the corner.

The visitors buckled down and took the game back to Shaw, the excellent Callum Dunmore once again leading from the front with his power drives.

Following a smart interception by George Metcalf, Heworth set up a straight angle for Dunmore to crash over for a deserved score. Myles Harrison tagged on the two.

The game ebbed and flowed and some fantastic tackling from man of the match Leon Mooring ensured there was no further scoring in the half. Mark Winn never stopped trying.

In the second half, defences on both sides excelled with Kai Brownlee leading from the front on his debut.

The hosts scored two more tries.

Heworth U8s played Swillington at Elm Park Way in an entertaining game. Swillington scored in the opening minute but from then on a physical Heworth outmuscled them.

Strong defence from top tackler Harrison Barker set the platform for Heworth to score eight unanswered tries, by man of the match Freddie Wilson, man of steel Thomas Hardy, Harrison Barker, Callum Costanzo, Adam Hodgson and a storming length of the field effort by Harvey Barker.

Swillington scored a consolation try in the final minute.

Jonathan Hartley (most improved), Ellis Cochrane (opposition’s man of the match) and Kenzie Witty, on debut, earned certificates.

• MAN of the Match Mathew Downes helped York Acorn ARLC Under-16s to a comfortable 30-4 win at Kippax.

The Blue and Golds started well and some good ball work put William Atkins over, with captain Mathew Chilton converting.

Acorn continued to press and bagged further tries by Jack Willis and an excellent solo effort by Connor Iddon, converted by Chilton.

A flurry of penalties allowed Kippax to go over in the corner to make it 18-4 at half-time.

Atkins powered through the Kippax defence to bag his second try as Acorn dominated with solid defence and good ball skills. Elliot Morton went over in the corner, followed by Jarod Sellars.

A disappointing display sent York Acorn U14s tumbling to a 30-10 defeat by Wyke.

Confidence is building for York Acorn U13s, who made it two wins in a row with a 32-8 success at Eastmoor Dragons, while a great team performance earned Acorn U10s a win against Dearne Valley.
