NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC Under-12s made it nine wins from nine as they edged North Leeds Leopards 14-10 thanks to a hat-trick of tries from Ritesh Gurung.

The All Blacks got the scoring started when man of the match and parents’ player Lewis Young spotted Gurung to get his first try of the match. Young kicked the extras.

North Leeds then levelled the scores before a nice move led to Gurung crashing through for his second try. The conversion was unsuccessful and the All Blacks led 10-6 at half-time.

The home side levelled the scores again before some good prop work set the platform for Luke Prenty to take the ball from the back of the scrum and find Gurung at pace for him to complete his hat-trick.

In the last play of the match, North Leeds broke away and, just when it seemed they would grab the match-winning score, Gurung made a try-saving tackle, forcing a knock on and sealing the win.

Prenty, Gurung and Young were joint top tacklers in the match, while Kai Elston-Smith took the most improved award.

Heworth U11s turned in one of their best team performances of the season to beat Stanley Rangers.

Ironically, Stanley scored first but Heworth soon replied when the ball was swept wide and Myles Harrison was able to score in the corner, but missed the conversion.

Stanley regained the lead before Callum Rutland spotted a gap and stretched out an arm to score and add the extras too.

Man of the Match Callum Dunmore was continually punching holes and making yards to set the platform for Heworth and Rutland spotted a gap and squeezed in, with Leon Mooring converting.

Players’ player Kane Kavanagh then crossed to extend the lead before Rangers struck back again.

But Heworth were not done and the powerful Kavanagh again went over to seal a great victory.

Heworth U8s came close to beating Townville Tigers before falling to an 8-3 loss. Townville boasted a year-long winning streak but were trailing thanks to two early tries from coaches’ man of the match Harrison Barker and Adam Hodgson.

Most improved player Harvey Barker, parents’ man of the match Freddie Wilson and opposition man of the match Ellis Cochrane kept the Tigers at bay before Harrison Barker grabbed his second try of the match but Heworth were unable to hold onto their lead.
