DEBUTANT Oli Zuiderwijk scored with his first touch as New Earswick All Blacks Under-12s, knocked out of the Yorkshire Junior League Cup last week, got back to winning ways with a 40-10 defeat of West Leeds Eagles to maintain their 100 per cent record in division four.

Ritesh Gurung sprinted home from 70 yards to open the scoring after breaking through the defence, and fast footwork saw Owen Bassett cross from a sweet ball from Taylor McDonough. Zuiderwijk then came off the bench and, in his first drive, sidestepped through to score from 55 yards.

The dangerous Gurung completed a hat-trick, Bassett crossed again, and McDonough also scored, with Sam Briggs kicking four goals.

Frank Srange was man of the match at full-back, prop Dan Cannon was most improved, Luke Prenty the top tackler, and Gunesh Simsek parents’ player of the match.

Heworth U11s entertained a depleted Dewsbury Moor in a contest split into two mini games.

The first saw some great endeavour with Kane Cavanagh crossing twice and converting one try.

Flynn Pagdin showed promise and crossed the whitewash again, and he was well supported by Luke Kane and the most improved player, Cameron Donald, who completed the scoring with his first try for the team, a finishing well from a set-piece.

The second game continued in the same vein, with braces coming from Leon Mooring and Myles Harrison, while the final try was a great effort from Callum Rutland.

A superb display saw Heworth U9s overcome visitors Hunslet Warriors in a pulsating match.

The Villagers had impressive performances all over the park, with Kian Ogilvie and Harry Brown particularly oustanding along with George Bradley-Consett, who scored a hat-trick.

Lucas Burden again shone in defence and captain Oliver Lambert produced the golden moment when racing down the wing to dive over for a deserved try. Other scorers were Brown (2), Harvey Watson (2), Sam Hunt, and Jack Taylor.

Heworth U8s battled hard against a strong Stanningley side but an improved second-half show was not enough for victory.

Man-of-the-match Adam Hodgson continued his scoring streak, while Callum Costanzo, Ellis Cochrane and Jay Downes stood out.
