LUCAS Burden scored a try and won the top tackler award but could not save Heworth ARLC under-8s from a defeat at Hunslet Warriors.

A fine run by Burden saw him cross the line for the visitors while Kian Ogilvie also made a sensational cover tackle to deny the Warriors a try after chasing back from inside the opposition half.

With both Oliver Lambert and Harvey Watson both threatening going forward, Heworth always looked dangerous.

Lambert went on to score a try in the last few minutes and walked away with the coach’s man-of-the-match award, while Watson was named parents’ man-of-the-match.

The most improved player on the day was Adam Hodgson, who made a great break in the second half only to be denied by a last ditch tackle with the try line beckoning.

Ellis Cochrane, meanwhile, was the opposition’s choice as man of the match for a good, all-round display.

Heworth U11s drew 18-18 with Underbank Rangers in their final home game of the season.

Kian Oliver scored ten points courtesy of two of tries and a conversion, while man of the match Harry Griffiths was outstanding in scoring a try and picking up the top tackle award.

Jack Moore was the other try scorer.

Charlie Nicholson was the parents’ choice for man of the match after some storming runs.

He also picked up the opposition man of the match.

Max Davison won the magic moment award.

Heworth U11s are looking for new players to join them for next season.
