A RESOUNDING 33-18 triumph was posted by York Acorn ARLC under-18s at hosts Harehills.

Pressure on the Harehills attack forced a mistake and from the resulting scrum Ash Robson danced through the defence to score under the posts. Jake Calam was successful with the boot.

By 11 minutes, Acorn had doubled their lead, Calam McDarby carrying the ball across field before a well-timed pass to Jacob Walker, who scooted away for a 60-metre sprint to the line. Calam again obliged with the kick.

When Harehills raided, they found man of the match Hayden Nelson and Charlie Settle standing strong.

The lead widened on 16 minutes. Robson’s kick over the top was kept alive and another of his kicks saw McDarby react quickest to score.

Three minutes later Reef Wilson crossed after the ball passed through five sets of hands before reaching the full-back. Calam’s goal made it 22-0 at half-time.

Within minutes of the restart Wilson bagged his second try, getting on the end of a 60-metre break from Robson. Calam goaled from the touchline.

Acorn’s forwards were dominant, especially Reece Arthur, Jack Burgess and Alex Smith.

But the visitors then stepped off the pace and Harehills weighed in with two quick tries before Robson ran from dummy half to add a further four points.

He also added a one-pointer before the deficit was closed with a late home try.

Notable performances came from Charlie Settle, Alex Smith, Burgess and Wilson.

Ritesh Gurung scored his third successive hat-trick as New Earswick All Blacks under-11s travelled to Methley Warriors.

The All Blacks started with a superb defensive set to get the ball back just inside their own half. Lewis Young popped a superb long ball out for Ellena Powell to cross.

Newly-apppointed kicker Sam Briggs converted.

Methley hit back with two quick tries, but Gurung then zipped away for a try and Owen Bassett danced his way through.

Methley responded again but Gurung, powerhouse prop Joshua Walton and Bassett all scored again.

Young kicked one from one and Briggs had six successful kicks from six attempts.

Powell was top tackler and joint parents’ player, with Gurung the other parents’ choice. Gurung was opposition man of the match, while most improved was prop Joshua Addison.

Taylor McDonough received man of the match after leading the All Blacks round the park.

Heworth under-11s’ man of the match Bradley Burns had his best game of the season in the 44-18 win against Sherburn with some storming runs and great tackles.

New boy Elliot Burden picked up the parents’ man of the match award after his excellent defence. He was also joint top tackler with Harry Griffiths.

Ben Barnard picked up the magic moment award after scoring a great solo try. The other try-scorers were Kian Oliver, Jensen Brown and Niall Bowlby.

Jack Moore, who bagged two tries, was the opposition’s man of the match.
