York under 11’s kicked off their season away to Hull in this friendly fixture. Despite losing the game 4-2 this was York’s first game and the team acquitted themselves very well.

York began the game very brightly against a strong Hull outfit and from an early corner York were awarded a penalty for a push, Jack Hughes struck the penalty low and hard but it glanced off the post. Hull responded and started to build pressure.

Eventually on 15 minutes Hull took the lead from a corner the ball fell kindly to a Hull striker who struck from distance narrowly avoiding the oncoming York defender Dan Tingle to land in the top corner of the York goal. The game now hit a stalemate period with York pushing for an equaliser while Hull were pushing for a second crucial goal.

Todd Edgar the York keeper pulled of some fine saves in this period and then with 15 minutes of the game remaining the game sprung back to life after a great Oliver Walsh run Myles Jackson collected the pass and smashed home the equalising goal for York.

Things got even better 4 minutes later when Oliver Walsh now turned goal scorer from an acute angle to put York 2-1. The frantic finish to the game continued with Hull now grabbing two goals in the last 5 minutes to run out 4-2 winners. There were plenty of positives from this fledgling York outfit with strong performances from York’s Joe Watt and George Turbine in midfield and some assured defending from Dan Tingle
