YORK Railway Institute Football Club’s under-11s girls continued their success by securing a third trophy of the season at the annual Girls’ Football Festival at New Lane.
More than 40 teams from U10s to U16s competed in five and six-a-side tournaments and York RI U11s won their trophy to maintain their unbeaten record in competitive matches this year.
The RI U10s matched their club-mates by securing their age group cup, again going undefeated, while the hosts’ U13s staged a remarkable comeback to win their event.
Trailing 3-1 deep into the second half of the final, they fought back to draw 3-3 and held their nerve to win on penalties.
It was a great send-off for RI chairman Peter Swann, who has handed over the reins to Kat Richardson after ten years.
