For only the third time since 1966, York U11 Schoolboys lifted the Green Un Cup with a 5-2 victory over rivals Hull, held at Tadcaster Albion’s 2Inspire Park.

Hull stamped their authority from the first whistle and York ‘keeper Nathan Storr pulled off some great saves to keep the score at 0-0; but the Hull pressure paid off and within three minutes were ahead with a shot dipping just under the crossbar.

This sparked York into life with Declan Racher creating space down the left wing to force a fine save from the Hull Keeper. With the game end to end, York got back into the match when Josh Hall’s powerful free kick could only be parried to skipper Luke Jones to tap in. Racher and Hall had chances to give York the lead but had to settle with level terms going into the break.

York conceded an early corner in the second half but a great clearance pass from Liam White saw Josh Hall set off through the Hull defence before rounding the keeper to put York into the lead. Hall doubled his tally as he carved the defence open again and fired low into the net making it 3-1 to York.

Hull won a free kick on the edge of the York area and was sublimely struck into the top corner to bring them back into the game. York were not finished and some great work by Max Rigby saw Hall claim his hat trick with some excellent trickery gave York a two-goal cushion.

Despite Hull pressure, Man of the Match Hall added his fourth of the night thanks to fantastic work from midfielder Jimmy Gore to finish the match with a 5-2 win.

Manager Matt Gore was delighted for his team’s success: “Captain Luke Jones was destined to lift this cup with him and the entire squad playing outstanding. Man of the match and four goal hero Josh Hall was devastating. He was incredible and showed why Hull City have selected him for their academy. The win was dedicated to Will Jarvis, who scored over 50 goals this season is recovering from a broken leg.
