Fine weather meant that the Junior Cricket season got off to the perfect start. 24 clubs will field 107 teams in five age groups with Walton CC fielding junior teams in the York Association for the first time. This year also marks a new Under 18’s age group albeit with only three teams.

In the Under 13’s league, Heworth B beat Bolton Percy Boys, closing out with 90-1.Edward McVey top scored with 14 for Percy but fell to 56-7, with Leo Jones and Jack Wilkinson both taking two wickets each.

Acomb B overcame York B when they finished 70-4 thanks to Dan Watkinson’s 20 runs. In response, Sam Backhouse was the star for York scoring 30, but finished short on 55-8.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge beat Clifton Alliance scoring 79-3 with Clifton Alliance falling short, being bowled out for 65.

North Duffield started with a win over Londesbrough Park. David Weston hit 30 not out as they totalled 60 for 3. But Duffield’s Sam McDonald top scored with 23 not out to help reach 61-2.

Woodhouse Grange posted 123-1 against Stamford Bridge with Matthew Ainley and Dan Robertson both retiring on 30 not out. Ben Beard’s 31 runs were in vain as his team closed on 84-8.

Tom Scrowston top scored for Pocklington with 28 as they posted 84-7 but Yapham nicked it with five balls to spare.

In the Under 11’s, York against Ovington A showed good bowling attacks with York edging it by just six runs. York’s Sam Lonsdale took 2-0 and Ovington’s Zachery Waites had figures of 3-2.

Champions Acomb A beat last season’s runners up Sheriff Hutton Bridge. Harry Watkinson top scored with 19 while Theo Walton and Dan Tingle’s two wickets apiece help their side to victory.

Tom Francis’ 19 runs helped Heworth A beat hosts Pocklington. Ted Baty top scored with 11 for Pocklington.

In Division Two, Acomb B’s win over Stamford Bridge was bowler dominant with K Garry taking 1-4 for Acomb.

Heworth B went down at hosts Bolton Percy. Max Thomas had figures of 2-6 for Percy whereas Heworth A Stone took 3-1.

Newcomers Walton shared the points in a tie with Bolton Percy Girls.

In the Under 11’s Development League, Jack Holroyd, 3-4 was the star as North Duffield overcame York B.

Harry Forman’s 16 not out and wickets from Devlin Hunt, Laura Kelly and Harry Scrowston helped Pocklington B beat Ovington B.

In the Under 9’s, Bolton Percy opened their season with a win over Ovington

There were no fixtures in the Under 15’s Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Championship.
