BROOKLYN Under-16s retained the Scarborough & District FA Junior Cup after a 2-1 victory over Fishburn Park in the final at Whitby Town’s Turnbull Road ground.

Brooklyn started brightly with a high tempo pressing game and the pressure paid off on 20 minutes when keeper Nick Lock’s goal kick was flicked on by James Barrett, and finished with a clinical right foot drive from Arron Dews.

Soon the lead was doubled when Lewis Botham left his marker and hit a strong low shot, which was parried by the keeper into the path of James Barrett, who finished at the far post.

As the second half began, the roles were reversed, as Fishburn pushed forward and soon pulled a goal back.

Brooklyn’s defence held firm against a sustained period of pressure, with Nathan Cross, Matthew Simpson and Josh Singleton standing their ground.

Ryan Gaughan kept the lead in tact with a brilliant over-head goal line clearance as Fishburn continued to attack from all areas.

Substitute Matthew Watson missed three great chances to increase the lead, as Brooklyn relied on playing on the break.

Liam Wheeler, Nathan Stannard, Marcus Brigham and Shaun Harland all played their hearts out in a brilliant all round team performance.

Liam Douthwaite was named Brooklyn’s star player.

Ryedale-based Brooklyn have finished fourth in the York F1 Racing Minor League division one.
