A LATE Huddersfield equaliser meant York College missed a chance to extend their lead in the English Colleges Regional Football League.

York started the game three points above their second-placed rivals – and that was how it remained at the end following a 2-2 draw at their Sim Balk Lane base.

Both teams struggled in strong winds in the first half and York went behind shortly after the restart when Huddersfield striker Foster netted with a 25-yard volley which left goalkeeper Jack Rushworth stunned.

But York started to create chances with Mitch Hamilton, Dan Barrett and Dan Wiltshire all going close.

Man of the match Barrett then scored from the edge of the box after good midfield work from Wiltshire.

They went in front on the hour mark when Wiltshire latched on to a poor Huddersfield backpass and rounded the ’keeper to equalise.

Ahead with five minutes to go, calamitous decision making between full-back Alex Horsman and Rushworth left the ball to Huddersfield midfield player Jackson to equalise.

Coach Mike Morton said: “In strong winds I thought the standard of football was excellent.

“The win would have taken us six points clear and within sight of the title, but it was not to be.

“The title race goes on to next week.”
