A HALF-CENTURY opening stand laid the foundations for Dunnington’s 32-run victory over Selby in the York & District Junior Cricket Association Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Under-13s Championship.

Dunnington batted first in the zone ‘A’ clash and scored 102-2 off their 20 overs, with Harrison Mussel top-scoring on 30 retired.

Selby were then held to 70-8 off their 20 overs, with the visitors’ cause not helped by three run outs.

Harry Saunders hit 17 and Alex Langhan top-scored with a knock of 20.

There was disappointment for Dunnington in round one of the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13 Cup as their rain-hit tie against Yapham was decided in Yapham’s favour on the toss of a coin.

In zone ‘B’ of the U13s Championship, Tadcaster Magnets lost out to Clifton Alliance in a close game.

Charlie Marr hit 36 not out and Manni Denubriga got 12 in Magnets’ 67-8, with Jack Mayfield taking 4-12.

In a tense chase, Denubriga then took 3-9, Marr 2-16 and Justin Speck 2-6, but Mayfield (12) and N Kennedy (13) were the pick of the Alliance batsmen in a winning score of 68-8.

Yapham batted first against Drax in zone ‘C’ and posted 91-4, with Sam Noble making 30 not out and Harry Jones 28 not out.

Drax’s Tyler Thomas had bowling figures of 2-4 and Joseph Raynor 2-5.

Thomas then hit 30 not out but his side fell short on 69-4, with Oliver Robinson (2-12) the pick of the attack.

Bishopthorpe’s Joe Curtis made 25, skipper Matthew Sharples 25 and Angus Bindloss 20 in their 95-5 at Stamford Bridge, whose Dan Gilyeat took 2-5.

Bridge’s reply centred on 21 from Matthew MacFarlane before a couple of quick wickets from Will Middleton (2-12) pegged them back at 54-4.

A stand of 42 between skipper Ben Beard (21no) and Josh Moore (10no) saw Bridge home.

Malton & Old Malton’s bowlers endured mixed fortunes against Pocklington, with seven victims cleaned bowled but also a total of 25 extras conceded as Pock closed at 53-9.

It took the Malton batsmen only 6.5 overs to secure a five-wicket win, with Jess Forman and Charlie Buckle both taking 2-8.
