A PAIR of cricketing brothers have been selected by North Yorkshire, writes Josh Luckhurst.

Harry and Dan Watkinson, aged ten and 13 respectively, will represent the county in their age group, while Harry has also been called up for the Yorkshire squad. His first match for the White Rose side is at home to Leicestershire on May 27.

Dan has hit unbeaten fifties in league matches for Acomb, justifying his call up for the county.

Dad Lee Watkinson was proud of his sons’ success, saying: “It is pretty rare for two brothers to get selected for North Yorkshire. I am so proud of them. They are both cricket-mad. Coach Simon Brown has been exceptional for them at Acomb.”

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC Primary School pupil Harry has previously been scouted by county officials after impressive performances while playing for the York Taverners under-11s despite being an U9s player.

As well as the Leicester match, Harry will go to Sussex for a three-day tour for matches against the host county plus Kent and Surrey.

All Saints’ pupil Dan will play for North Yorkshire in the Yorkshire Festival against West Yorkshire on May 28.

They face South Yorkshire the following day.
