VICTORIOUS York Under-13s lifted the Percy Hardacre Trophy in a superb finale to the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival at Cleckheaton.

The York representative side beat Scarborough by four wickets in the final, having emerged from their group unbeaten and then ousted East Yorkshire by six wickets in the semi-final.

Scarborough batted first in the final and were all out for 113 in the 33rd over in the face of some accurate and miserly York bowling.

Spinners Hayden Bradley and Dan Watkinson bowled in tandem, taking a wicket each, and they were ably backed up by seamers Josh Berry (3-13), Jack Williams (2-14), Harry Sheppeard (2-11) and Harry Sutcliffe, who only conceded nine runs in four overs.

When York batted, the top order all contributed to a winning total of 114-4.

Bradley made 19, Alex Liley 22, Harrison Mussell 18 and man of the match James Hattee 38 not out as York sealed victory in the 24th over.

In the last four at Beverley, York’s bowlers skittled the hosts for 103, Berry taking 3-21 and Sheppeard 3-13.

York won by six wickets after useful contributions from Bradley, with 32, and Liley, who hit 38.

The Minster city boys’ group games had started with an 87-run win against Doncaster.

York scored 188-8 thanks to good contributions from Bradley, Jack Williams, Ryan Whitley, Arthur Campion and Berry. Doncaster replied with 101-6, Josh Sargent taking 4-13.

In the second game, York beat Wetherby by nine wickets at Bolton Percy.

Wetherby batted first and were all out for 104, Sutcliffe claiming 3-2 and Williams 5-12, before Liley led the reply with 72 not out.

York then scored 293-8 batting first at Pontefract, Bradley top-scoring with 71, while James Hattee hit 66, Matthew Ainley 50 and Josh Berry 46 not out off only 18 balls.

Pontefract were then restricted to 132-6.

The final group game fell to the weather as Heavy Woollen scored 194-9 before rain ended any chance of York batting.
