MALTON & Old Malton Under-15s have recorded a fantastic double in the York & District Junior Cricket Association.

The Ryedale youngsters have added the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Championship to their earlier President’s Cup triumph, beating York in the final of both competitions.

York were without their leading run scorer Richard Brown for the Championship final, while Malton had skipper Shaun Harland back in their team after he missed the President’s Cup tie through injury.

York won the toss and elected to bat, making a steady start to their innings thanks to Ted Patmore, who made 27.

However, tight bowling from Toby Secombe and Keiran Windass, who took 2-16 and1-10 respectively, restricted York to an under-par 85-7.

York’s defence of their low score started well as Tom Spearman (1-10) and Patmore (0-14) bowled tightly.

However, the result never looked in doubt as Harland guided his team home with a stylish 52 retired to seal an eight-wicket win.

Meanwhile, York retained the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13s Championship title with a 63-run win over Heworth.

York made a poor start after winning the toss and electing to bat as they lost a couple of early wickets and were restricted by good bowling from Ryan Whitley and Paddy Slade, who took 1-19 and 1-10 respectively.

However, a fluent 22 from Cameron Hall and a vital 30 not out from Andrew Hyams meant that York managed to reach a competitive score of 126-4.

York then proceeded to dominate in the field as the Heworth batsmen struggled to get to grips with their bowling attack.

Only opener Kewell Ford and lower order batsman Oliver Hughes made it into double figures.

Tom Backhouse was the pick of the York bowlers with figures of 4-17, while Sam Wordsworth (2-11) and Jack Williams (2-10) helped to bowl out Heworth for 63.

York and Heworth will also feature in the U13 six-a-side tournament which is being held at Clifton Alliance and York tomorrow.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge U11s lifted the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company Hardball U11s Cup with a five-run win over Acomb.

Bridge batted first and reached a challenging score of 99-3 thanks to 33 not out from Theo Smerdon, 20 not out from captain Issac Giannini and ten from Ed Ramsden.

Acomb’s Thomas Brown and Joe Hickey bowled well as they finished with figures of 2-17 and 1-10.

The Acomb reply began well with openers Chris Wood and Jamie Thornton both retiring having made 30.

However, the innings then lacked impetus as Bridge bowlers Josh Mould, George Stephens and Giannini all picked up a wicket apiece as Acomb closed on 94-5.

The Bridge also finished as runners-up to division one champions Acomb in the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 Championship after a win at Ovington.

Smerdon was again the leading runscorer, making 30 not out, supported by 12 not out from Stephens and 11 from Billy Burgess.

Burgess then took 2-4 with the ball, while George Russell took 2-6.

Ovington’s T Burgess made 11 not out and J Lamb, J Burland and Isaac Burland all took one wicket.

In division two, Selby moved into second place behind champions Woodhouse Grange after a good win over Heworth.

Nathan Gorst top-scored with 18 and Joseph Hipkins and Patrick Harpham chipped in with 14 and ten.

With the ball, Oliver Parsonage was the pick of the Selby bowlers as he finished with figures of 2-9. Matthew Gibson and Finlay Tomlinson took 1-7 and 1-9. Heworth’s Jack Wilkinson made 14 and took 1-13.
