HEWORTH ARLC Under-11s enjoyed more derby joy after they won at New Earswick All Blacks U11s in a good game at White Rose Avenue.

Man-of-the-match Harry Griffiths was awesome for the Villagers, scoring two tries and three conversions to boot.

Jack Moore also starred as did Kian Oliver, who bagged another try, while Ben Barnard was named top tackler after two fantastic try-saving stops. He also scored a super touchdown.

Niall Bowlby took the magic moment award winner for his defence, while Charlie Nicholson made some great runs but just fell short of the line on the last set.

Jak Ostergaard was Heworth’s other try scorer and he also gave an excellent defensive display.

Ritesh Gurnung, the parents’ and opposition’s choice of All Blacks man of the match, and Owen Bassett scored the hosts’ tries, with Sam Briggs converting both.

Bassett also took their magic moment for his bobbing and weaving skills, while Ellena Powell was top tackler and home player of the game.

Heworth U11s are looking for new players.

They train on Tuesdays at Elm Park Way, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Heworth U10s lost to a strong East Leeds side, who gave a great defensive display.

Heworth upped their performance in the second half, with Leon Mooring, Callum Dumore, Myles Harrison and Archie Bennett among their better performers.

Heworth U8s played exceptionally well to reach the U8s final at the Leeds Irish Festival tournament which took place at the South Leeds Stadium home of Championship club Hunslet Hawks.

Having started slowly against Irish Clovers, the Villagers upped the performance in the second half to come out on top, and they then put in a tremendous display to outdo Brotherton Bulldogs in an entertaining match.

The match against East Leeds proved difficult but, despite showing signs of tiredness, Heworth – for whom Lucas Burden continued to shine – came away with a draw.

The Villagers lost their last group game against Stanningley, who topped the table, but still reached the final as group runners-up – having finished on the same points as East Leeds but with more tries.

The well-drilled Stanningley side, though, again proved too good to take the spoils.
