CELEBRATIONS are under way at Lakeside Primary School.

The Lakeside hockey team won the annual Peter Feasby Celebration Tournament at Huntington School, beating off competition from 26 teams from 24 other York primary schools.

The competition is held every year in memory former Robert Wilkinson Primary School head teacher Peter Feasby, who died suddenly in June 2004, aged 48.

Feasby’s former school reached the semi-finals, but bowed out after a 2-0 defeat by Lakeside. Runners-up Scarcroft, beat Knavesmire in the other semi-final after a penalty shoot-out.

The tournament started with three qualifying rounds and 12 teams then contested the final round at Huntington.

Among the finalists were Heworth, Wheldrake, Dunnington and Clifton with Rawcliffe.

The tournament was organised by Adam Cooper, of Knavesmire Primary, and he thanks the University of York sports centre, Manor CE School and Huntington School for making their all-weather pitches available for free or at discounted rates.
