POPPLETON Tigers and Tadcaster Magnets Blues will contest the final of the York FA Under-13s Junior Minor Cup.

The Tigers were 4-0 winners at Elmpark and Magnets beat Tockwith 8-0 in the Pavers Shoes-sponsored competition.

Elmpark had the better of the early stages, taking advantage of the strong wind at their backs, but were unable to test Poppleton keeper Tom Allison.

Poppleton came into the game with some wonderful flowing moves of quick passing football.

A decisive ten minutes in the second part of the first half saw Poppleton take control with Laurie Carlyle playing in first Patrick Mackle and then Ben Moss to convert the first two goals.

Towards the end of the half, Elmpark strung together some slick passing moves of their own, but their nearest effort ran wide of the Poppleton goal.

The victory was effectively sealed at the start of the second half with good work on the right hand side from Mackle resulting in a far-post cross that Jay Carter lunged at to stab the ball home.

Poppleton pressed well for the rest of the half, but they were denied by good handling from the Elmpark keeper.

Elmpark also had opportunities but the final twist came in the closing minutes when a speculative shot from distance by Moss was lost in a crowd of players and squeeze past the keeper into the corner of the goal.

Tadcaster Magnets Blues profited from a hat-trick by Manni De Nobriga, two goals apiece from Will Anderson (2) and Henry Copley (2), plus a strike by Miles Buckle.
