IT was the clash of the season so far in the York FA Under-19s Football League.
And honours went the way of leaders Dringhouses, who took a massive step in the title race after cementing a 1-0 win at nearest rivals Tockwith.
In a tight and tense duel, the points were not decided until Sam Ripley Kitson scored the winner in the closing minutes.
Tockwith’s loss enabled Haxby to leapfrog them into second place after Haxby hammered Dringhouses 8-0 at Stillington.
Haxby’s North Riding County FA U18 representative squad captain Matty Day scored twice as did Myles Frodsham, with the other half of the haul shared by Harry Moorcroft, Dan Clipston, Tom Davis and Kieron Dunlop.
Thorpe edged a five-goal thriller against Fulford with the home marksmen being Tom Fox, Jordan Leybourn and Andrew Wilson, while Jack Davies and Tom Andrew replied.
Rawcliffe were the day’s biggest winners after an 11-4 rout of York RI.
Hat-tricks from Kieron Nelson and Jonah Tomlin Kent led the spree, which was supplemented by goals from Ash Walker (2), Reuben Young (2) and an own goal.
All four RI strikes were notched by Mick Long.
Wigginton Grasshoppers and Acomb Athletic contested a hard-fought clash with the points going to Grasshoppers, whose James Sutton (2) and Sam Jeffrey were on target. Alex Day replied.
